The Norwegian Book Town

Situated by the fjord, surrounded by mountains, and with the biggest glacier in continental Europe just a hike away, you’ll find Fjærland, the home of Norway’s very first book town. In the book town you’ll find a dozen outlets, ranging from big indoor shops you can get lost in, where all books are properly categorized, to outdoor self-service shelves that have something for everyone.

In total, you can expect to find approximately 150 000 books. Most of them are Norwegian, of course, but the English speaking traveller will also be able to discover thousands of titles, and we do have books in many of the European languages. Regardless of language barriers, there’s a cultural history in the hundreds of shelves that can be appreciated, even if only aesthetically!

Among our close neighbours are Inkåleisn cafè, The Glacier Museum, Fjordstova Hotel and Fjærland Guiding, making for a full tourist experience.
